Calico is an independent biotech company established in 2013 by Google Inc. with the stated goal of focusing on the challenge of aging and associated diseases. The new company will be led by Arthur D. Levinson, who is the current chairman of both Apple Inc. and Genentech. The name Calico is shorthand for California Life Company.
